SUBANG JAYA: Motorists in Seri Kembangan will soon have a new highway, the Serdang-Kinrara-Putrajaya Expressway (SKIP).
Sri Kembangan state assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah said the traffic congestion had become a nightmare for some 100,000 people in Seri Kembangan.
"There is only one way in and out on the PLUS Highway through Sungai Besi Toll Plaza to Seri Kembangan and it is congested both during and off peak hours, " said Yong.
SKIP will consist of seven interchanges on its 17km stretch. "The interchanges will be at Bandar Kinrara, Bandar Putra Permai, two interchanges near Putrajaya, Lestari Perdana and two in Seri Kembangan.
"The project will probably start early next year and it will take three years to complete. It is estimated to cost about RM2 billion," said Yong.
He said with the new highway, traffic congestion will be reduced and it will be easy for the motorists to get to Seri Kembangan without going into the old town.
Member of parliament for Serdang Teo Nie Ching said the traffic congestion in Seri Kembangan is at level F, which is bad.
"Presently, 200,000 motorists use the road daily," said Teo.
"SKIP will make it easier for motorists to get to their destinations.
"The property value in UPM and The Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) will also go up," said Teo during the press conference.
However, there are concerns regarding the construction work.
"We expect traffic congestion during construction and hope the inconvenience to motorists will be minimised," added Teo.
